I am looking for an extended metaphor like ''insufficient funds'' or ''cashing the check''. But it has to do with guns or gun violence.

What is a good metaphor that has to do with guns

A good old standby is ''Busted a Cap''. Comes from the days of cap and ball guns, firing the gun would cause the cap to come apart.

Usage: I have busted a cap on a few in my day, but they all had it coming.

Yet another is he developed a bad case of lead poisoning.
